Pikey Peak Trek in the famous Everest region is one of non touristic Eco trekking route of Nepal. This trekking trail provides the opportunity to explore the famous Everest region trekking away from the madding crowds of the Gokyo valley and Everest base camp trekking trail. The name of the peak comes from the name of a Sherpa Clan deity. Sherpa people hold different celebration during month of July to worship their clan god, the eastern Chyabo Pikey, as Pikey Hlapchen Karbu in the celebrations. From the Pikey Peak you can enjoy the breath-taking sunrise and sunset views. this trekking offers excellent vistas of the haughty peaks of the central and eastern Himalayan range of Mt. Everest, Makalu, Kanchenjunga, Annapurna, Gauri Shanker, Lhotse, Numbur, Khatang, Karyalung, Shishapangma, Mera Peak, Thamserku, Lhotseshar, Nuptse and a small portion of Ama Dablam. It also offers the unique Sherpa culture and picturesque landscapes.

Pikey Peak Trek commences with the scenic flight from Kathmandu to Phaplu, a Himalayan settlement. Rumjatar and Jiri are also other alternative entry points to trek to the Pikey Peak. In this trek you pass through the beautiful settlements of various ethnic groups, forest of rhododendron, valleys etc enjoying the beautiful landscapes and scenery. in this trek you can visit the ancient Buddhist Monastery of Thupten Chholing as well as enjoy the unique Sherpa culture with their friendliness. During the trek you cross places like Junbesi, Phaplu, Taksindu, Beni, Dudhkunda, Taksindu and back to Salleri. Pikey Peak trek is the camping trek as there are no lodges and tea house on the way. The road trip from Kathmandu to Dhap Bazaar usually takes about 7-8 hours and is roughly 230 km long. Along the way, you'll see beautiful countryside views with fields on hillsides and small villages, and sometimes, you might catch a peek at the big Himalayan mountains far away. After following the road next to the Sun Koshi River, you'll get to Ghurmi. Then, as you travel through forests filled with rhododendron flowers, you'll finally reach Dhap Bazaar. 

The walk from Dhap Bazaar to Jhapre is an adventure through the beautiful countryside of Nepal. The path goes up and down hills, showing off incredible views of the Himalayas. You'll start from Dhap Bazaar and walk uphill to Jhapre, a serene Sherpa village. The trail goes through forests, little streams, and farmlands. Sometimes, you might meet friendly locals, spot grazing yaks, and see the local lifestyle. Along the way, you can witness the grandeur of peaks like Mt. Everest, Mt. Numbur, and Mt.Karyolung. Finally, after a 4-5 hours hike, you arrive at Jhapre.

The Pikey Peak Trek 9 days journey from Jhapre to Pikey Base Camp is super special! Along the way, hikers find scenic resting places like Bulbule, Taklung Danda, and Loding. It's a perfect place to take a break and enjoy nature's beauty. Moreover, these spots provide spectacular views of fields, traditional villages, and massive peaks like Mt. Everest and other surrounding mountains. The trail goes through lush forests, flowery meadows, and old monasteries. After 6-7 hours of long day hike, you reach Pikey Base Camp. Heading up Pikey Peak for sunrise is exciting! You start the day early when it's still dark, trekking up in the quiet before dawn. It feels like a thrilling adventure, a bit tough but super thrilling. With headlamps guiding the way, the path can be rocky and challenging. But as you get closer to the top, there's this incredible feeling of calmness. Then, when the sun starts coming up, the sky changes colors—it's like a painting. Red, orange, and pink colors fill the sky, lighting the snowy mountaintops. The view from Pikey Peak is incredible! You see big mountains, especially Mount Everest, getting all golden in the sunlight. It's a special moment that amazes you with nature's beauty. After this magical experience, you trek down to Loding through beautiful landscapes and villages for overnight.

Today's trek leads you to Junbesi, a culturally rich Sherpa village. It begins with a descent along the ridgeline towards Jase Bhanjyang. Following this, various routes are available for the descent towards Junbesi. One particularly striking option is a shortcut trail diverging shortly after Jase Bhanjyang, leading through impressive old-growth forests on a steep decline to Taktor. This trail eventually intersects with the famous Jiri Everest Base Camp Trek routes. With a few hours of walking, you reach Junbesi. 

In Junbesi, you can explore ancient monasteries like the Thuptenchholing Monastery and the Tashi Thongmon Monastery, which are important for the locals' beliefs and traditions. Also, lots of trekkers start or finish their journeys here because Junbesi is a crucial point for many treks in this area, like Pikey Peak Trek and Everest Base Camp Trek.

After breakfast, the trek commences through scenic trails, crossing bridges and forests. With a short ascent, you reach Ringmo village and find yourselves amid the apple farms. Ringmo is famous for its Apple products like wine, alcohol, pie, and snacks. From Ringmo, with a short ascend to Taksindu La and descent, you reach Taksindu village. It is a famous Sherpa village abode to the ancient Taksindu Monastery.

The walk from Taksindu to Phaplu shows off how beautiful the Himalayas are. It's about 5 miles long and takes you through green forests, cute Sherpa villages, and amazing mountain views. You start at Taksindu Monastery on a hill and walk down, seeing snowy mountaintops and fields along the way. You'll meet Sherpas wearing their traditional clothes and smiling at you as you follow small paths. The scenery changes as you go, showing you the area's culture. When you get to Phaplu, it's the end of the trip and a lovely town with lively markets.

The trip by car from Phaplu to Kathmandu is about 133 miles long and usually takes between 7 to 9 hours. You'll go through hilly areas, passing towns like Jiri and Dolakha. First, you head to Salleri and then go through stunning scenery. Sometimes, the road might not be smooth, and you might find rough or unfinished parts. But along the way, you'll see beautiful landscapes and experience different places before reaching Kathmandu.

Pikey Peak Trek Best Time

The best times for trekking at Pikey Peak  Trek are ‘pre-monsoon’ at Spring (February, March, April and May) and ‘post monsoon’ at  Autumn (September, October and November). The summer months are very rainy because it will be monsoon season and the winter is very cold and windy too. 

In the summer months, mornings are cloudy with rain. Trekking is very uncomfortable, because the trail is quite slippery and muddy. Trekking during winter is no real problem because it will normally be dry and clear when it gets quite cold. You need plenty of warm clothes if you want to go trekking at the winter months.

Picky Peak Trek Difficulties

Pikey Peak trek is considered easy and has moderate difficulty. The route follows at the lower Everest region. You won’t find steep and challenging paths along the way, but 5 to 6 hours for the daily walk which makes the trek a little tired and exhausting.

Pikey Peak Trek Routes

.The Pikey Peak trek route starts with the drive from Dhap. A scenic drive for about 8 hours provides the best countryside view. You will also experience the Sherpa Culture. It also gives you the best countryside view and enjoy the local villages. From day 2 onwards, we start walking and to reach Pikey Peak’s highest point. From here, we will move down the trek to Junbesi.

During the Pikey Peak trail, we will also the visit a local village. Get the stunning mountain view and see the Thupten Choling Gompa.
