Sagarmatha National Park is a famous park in Nepal, listed in UNESCO World Heritage Site which is home to Mount Everest also called ‘Sagarmatha’ in Nepali, the tallest mountain in the world. The park is in the eastern part of Nepal, in the Solukhumbu District which covers an area of 1,148 square kilometers. The Sagarmatha Park was established in 1976. It has beautiful valleys, rivers, and glaciers.

The Khumbu Glacier, which climbers pass on their way to Everest Base Camp, is one of the major glaciers in the Sagarmatha National Park. Khumbu Glacier is one of the largest glacier in the world and a prominent geographical feature in the Everest region of Nepal. Located within Sagarmatha National Park, Khumbu Glacier stretches over approximately 14 kilometers (8.7 miles) from its origin near the Everest Base Camp to the Khumbu Icefall. Khumbu Glacier starts at an elevation of about 7,600 meters (24,900 feet) and descends down to around 4,900 meters (16,100 feet) near Everest Base Camp.

And, other glaciers found in Sagarmatha National Park are Imja, Ngozumpa and Lhotse. Imja Glacier is located in the Everest region of Nepal, within Sagarmatha National Park which is one of the largest glaciers in the Everest region. Ngozumpa Glacier is situated in the Solu-Khumbu region of Nepal, also within Sagarmatha National Park which is extended for approximately 36 kilometers (22 miles). Lhotse Glacier is situated in the Everest region, adjacent to Mount Lhotse, the fourth highest mountain in the world.

Besides Mount Everest,

there are other high mountains in Sagarmatha National Park. Some of these mountains are:

  • Ama Dablam (6,812 meters)

Visitors can learn about Sherpa culture by visiting their villages, such as Namche Bazzar and Tengboche, which are stops on the way to Everest Base Camp.

Best Time to Visit: The best times to visit are during the pre-monsoon (March to May) and post-monsoon (September to November) seasons. During these times, the weather is usually clear and stable offering the best views and trekking conditions.
